During World War One, U.S cryptographers trained at Riverbank Laboratories
posed for a group photo. Using varieties in their posture, they created a bilateral
code which spelled out a quote from the cypher’s inventor, Francis Bacon, to the
knowing observer. In a similar vein, I use the invisible structures of photographic
media to articulate the unseen systems of information and power that surround us.
